It takes a while to fully appreciate the sheer scale of the Domaine de Lavagnac property development. It's bigger than any other development in France, let alone any in Languedoc, and combines not only luxury homes, but a 17th century chateau (to become a 5-star hotel), one of the best golf courses in France, a huge luxury spa complex, its very own village, as well as tennis courts and a golf club.
All this - on a massive estate of 200 hectares (500 acres) that, even once finished, will remain mostly untouched forest and vineyard.
The positioning of the development is also very impressive. It's half-way between Béziers and Montpellier, only 15 minutes from some of Languedoc's most popular beaches and seaside ports and resorts. Airports, motorways and TGV stations are all very close-by, so getting to and from your new home at Lavagnac will be both inexpensive and quick.
The entire development is centred around a gorgeous 17th century chateau that is known as the 'Versailles of Languedoc'. It is to be totally renovated and its French gardens brought back to life.
The homes here will be divided up into over 20 'hamlets' and 'avenues' - so owners will feel a part of a smaller community while still benefiting from the huge scale of the entire estate.
Homes will be built to the very highest of standards - and in a contemporary style (rather than a 'pastiche') - so as to maximise the light and sense of space. Larger homes will come with large gardens and large pools. Even small properties, however, will benefit from some garden, large terraces, and shared pools.
