Museums and galleries - Languedoc Roussillon, South France

There really aren't that many good museums and galleries in Languedoc Roussillon, south of France, so we've included only two, the Musee Fabre in Montpellier, and the superb Dali Museum not far over the border in Spain.

Museums and Galleries in Languedoc, south of France
Dali Museum, Figueres

Dali Museum, FigueresMost museums just show art - the Dali Museum is a work of art itself. Designed by Dali himself, the building is as twisted and surreal as Dali's paintings and sculpture - with fabulously odd staircases, windows, alcoves and a maze of rooms housing some of his most famous works. One hour from Languedoc's southern border with Spain.
Entrance: €10

Musée Fabré, Montpellier
Musee Fabre, MontpellierLanguedoc's only major art gallery. A relatively famous collection of mostly eighteenth century paintings, but also housing a small photographic gallery and promoting twentieth century artists in a pavillion in the park opposite. Works by Delacroix, Dufy, Maillol and Rubens. Entrance €4.
