Chez Saskia is just next door to the Hotel de la Cité. It’s light, modern and upmarket, and offers menus at €28 and €45 (on the day we visited, the pricier menu comprised snails in parsley sauce, tagliatelle with asparagus and truffles, grilled sole with artichoke, fennel and white wine sauce, goat cheese with honey, and a special Coupe Saskia dessert of chocolate, pistachio nuts and Amareno cherries).

On rue Saint Louis, Comte Roger has a pretty courtyard and a four-course menu gourmand at €42 that features king prawns or duck foie gras, a choice of lamb or monk fish, cheese and dessert. Well worth a visit!

Very high quality cuisine. Although in the busy Cite de Carcassonne, ambiance in summer is lovely thanks to the leave-covered terrace. Try a winter visit though, as chef Pierre Mesa will have more time for you. He even remembered us at our second visit after 6 months!

Difficult to find but worth the search! Fantastic ambiance and decoration in an old french house. Secluded front and back patio terraces, front with pool! Very creative cooking with beautiful dishes inspired by french, mediterranean and asian cuisine. Set 4-course menu with house aperitif for around 30 euros.

Typically French - food very good and served in pleasant surroundings. River nearby so photos are superb. Snails on menu which is unusual in Lanquedoc - yummy - a must

Very poor attitude by 2 women (gay) owners, they clearly dislike Brits and over the years have made us feel so uncomfortable and unwanted that we stopped going (having been going for 5 years). We simply cannot recommend this place because it's so hit and miss, if the 2 women are happy its OK, if they've had a row, god help you! Also closed all of August, which is a joke. Suggest you take yourselves a bit further on to Cessenon sur Orb to the Restaurant L'Orb, much better, lovely people and fab food

In my opinion this restaurant serves the best food in the area (St Chinian / Cessenon). The food is not typically French, although there are obvious French influences. Everything we ate there was perfectly cooked and presented, and was very reasonably priced by UK standards. The 3 course set menu was 23 euros. The ambience is perfect. If you are looking to treat yourselves to a really good meal without breaking the bank balance, this is the place. We'll definitely be back!

Love, love, love this restaurant. Run by Brits (not that makes any difference) the staff are friendly and so helpful. Very child (& dog) friendly, the waitress was so kind to our son, even doing him seconds because he loved the food and kids portions not quite enough for a strapping 9 year old. Food is the best in the area but a tiny bit pricy, although that wouldn't stop us going back. Unfortuntely they've been closed every time we've been since, worth calling to make sure they're open. Can't recommend highly enough!

What a fantastic find, in the heart of a lovely little village. During summer you can eat outside under the olive trees. Either traditional French or Italian and Pizza oven too. A large varied menu to choose from as well as set menu's the desserts are huge. Run by a family, Carol front of house is very friendly even though we are English. Can be quiet some evenings but open for lunch and dinner every day except Monday

This quiet little Italian restaurant, just off of the main street in Pezenas is ideal for a either a beautiful bowl of Minestrone soup or a full Italian meal. When my dad came over to visit, he had the tuna steak and he couldn't praise it enough. A very nice place to eat.

A beautiful, family run restaurant. I've selected Italian, as they are also a Pizzeria but they are so much more than an "Italian" restaurant. The food is exquisite, with a Casserole de mer to die for and salads that linger on your taste buds. Meats and fish cooked to perfection with just enough vegetables to accompany your meal. Deserts, I had best not start on the deserts, as I'll run out of "characters", I'll let you find out for yourselves. The family are lovely people, very welcoming and look after you the whole evening which adds to the excellence of the whole dining experience. In the summer, they are able to open the terrace so customers can dine outside, many a beautiful evening we've passed the two of us or with friends enjoying the food, wine and welcome of Le Vesuvio. Try it for yourselves, you won't regret it, Martine and her family will help to make your evening something extra special.

This upmarket dining experience is to be found in centre of Beziers, tucked away at the far end of the recently-renovated Place Jean-Jaurès, next to a nice-looking wine bar (Le Chameau Ivre) and with a handy underground carpark just a few seconds from the door. We had a good set lunch, for an extremely reasonable 18,50 euros (down from 21 euros, after May 2009's VAT decrease), featuring a main course and dessert (only available at lunchtime). The service was very friendly and attentive, the dishes were delicious (sea bass cooked in banana leaves with steamed Chinese cabbage and ginger sauce for him - although a bit more gingery spice would have been nice - roast scallops with creamy risotto and asparagus tips for me), and the general feel of the place was cool, clean and contemporary. A good wine list, smart bathrooms, efficient air con and a funky vibe added to our enjoyment. Previous meals in other Beziers bistrots had left us feeling short-changed; this however was a very positive experience, as you might expect, knowing that La Compagnie des Comptoirs is part of the Pourcel brothers' gastronomic empire.

Bédarieux is smartening itself up and becoming an attractive small town in the beautiful Orb valley. Nevertheless a centre of gastronomy it is not.
However a young couple,Ludovic and Gwenaelle Calvo have opened a new restaurant, L’Atelier, and threaten to change that. Ludovic has worked for 5 years at Chez Philippe in Marseillan making pâtisserie. He then became a teacher at the Lycée Hotelier in Béziers. He is passionate about his cooking.
The restaurant is small and the décor contemporary, more Chelsea than Bédarieux, with a small terrace across the street for nicotinees. The restaurant itself is air-conditioned and a very pleasant environment in which to have dinner even on the hottest days of summer.
At lunchtime there is a menu at €13.50 (entrée and main course or main course and dessert, or all three for €17). In the evening there is a 3 course menu for €24, there being two choices for each course.
An example of their menu is:
Entrée
Lasagne froide de chèvre au pistou, sorbet piquillos et roquette
Tartare d’espada ”au couteau”, légumes croquants et vinaigrette aux agrumes
Plats
Papillotte de rascasse aux petits légumes et bouillon de bergamote
Effiloché de joues de cochon tombée de tétragousses minute (spinach)
Desserts
Tarte au chocolat grand cru Altare, chantilly de caramel salé
Gaspacho de pèches crème légère à la badiane et sorbet pèche-violette.
As you can see this is a cut above the usual restaurant fare, the joues de cochon being particularly good and the tarte au chocolat which was outstanding bore witness to Ludovic’s previous employment. Everything is presented in an attractive way with meticulous attention to detail.
The wine list of regional wines is well chosen with prices from €13 to €45 for a 2006 Jean-Michel Alquier.
So if you want to sample something special, exquisitely prepared and executed, book a table at l’Atelier and be received by Ludovic’s charming and attractive wife Gwenaelle.

The all inclusive menu seemed a little expensive until you arrived and were served five excellent courses plus an aperitif and coffee. Wine is also included. It is also possible to order off the a la carte menu. The restaurant was full and the cuisine and ambience were excellent. The service went downhill a little later on in the night, but overall a very good place to eat.

This has to be one of the finest restaurants in France. We had the €42 menu. This was fantastic. The wine was included and the service was great. I hope to revisit time and time again. I tried in February to book for a party of four however the phone kept putting me on hold. I drove there , only to find out that it is closed for renovations until March.

This restaurant opened at the start of Summer 09 and seems to have been full ever since. Food is elegantly presented and good quality, serving a similar menu to most of the local restuarants. Service is sometimes slow (mainly due to sheer volume of other diners). Lunch time menu is especially good value.
