Newly opened this year, Delicatessen is a breath of fresh air for the village of Marseillan. The cuisine is upbeat, with terrific featherlite pizzas that assuage your appetite without adding pounds to your physique. Pizza is on the menu, but not a large part of it as the dishes of the day can be anything from local seafood to basse cote. The service is really good, too, but what makes Delicatessen so special is the decor. Totally retro, with an amazing collection of objet d'art, mismatched chairs and tables, it is as fascinating to sit and study as satisfying to enjoy their cuisine. The management are vigilant in ensuring customers are well cared for and Delicatessen is a popular venue for locals, which is always a high recommendation for us. We love the atmosphere, relaxed and friendly and highly recommend a visit either for an apero, or a meal, to anyone passing through or staying in Marseillan.

This beautiful little restaurant only opened this year. It is right at the side of the canal. The food is brilliant and the ambience is lovely. it is small, family run and a genuinely unforgettable eating experience. My husband and I had a lovely dinner there. It is open for lunch and dinner every day except Wednesday.

What a delightful find - thanks to the previous reviewers here. :-)) We've eaten here twice over the past few weeks, Sunday lunchtimes both, and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience each time. We'll definitely go back, and sooner rather than later.

The Auberge Le Bouys is a small restaurant on a farm, amid a forest of greenery. Dining is under the trees, geese and chickens hovering round the tables. There are 5 menus rangeing from E18 to E30 Produce is from the farm. While quite off the beaten track it is well signposted from Minerve, but. best to phone for directions. A very rustic experience. .

We decided to try this restaurant, because we had read about the chateau's recent renovation. Sitting outside on the terrace, we had a tasty and enjoyable lunch. The first sign of the excellent service was -- without a request -- moving a nearby umbrella to assure that it and our umbrella together kept us in the shade. While the menu at a fixed price of €26 is not inexpensive, it did include a novel concept -- the ability to enjoy at least five of the chateau's wines as a "wine buffet" -- without any limitation. The courses were served smoothly at a nice pace. The Caesar salad and the fish dish (a piece of dorade and lieu) were among the highlights of our lunch dishes. We plan to return!

The Mas is located 2km from Stes Maries de la Mer on the D38 in what the publicity calls an Etang but turns out to be a swamp – mainly dying brown water-weed infested with mosquitos. No flamingos: but numerous swallows nesting under the room and three small coots. We booked late so had to take a Chambre Luxe rather than a standard room. High season rates per night run from €210 to €800+ for a suite. Our Luxe was €340 including breakfast. The entrance drive to the hotel is heavily rutted and demands careful driving. The Mas itself is laid out like an up-market Motel and most of the rooms are outside. When it rains you get wet going to breakfast. Because of its Motel style let’s compare it to a chain in France we use frequently – Campanile. The Luxe room at M de la F is about 30% larger than Campanile and the bathroom is much better, having a separate toilet. The bath is immense but you need to start running it the night before to get much water. The Luxe room offers accommodation for 3 but they would all need to sleep in one bed – it’s a 2metre-wide bed but no room for any addition in the room! A mosquito barrier slides across the glass door to the Etang but there are huge gaps so the mossies have a field-day. Numerous bites ext morning. There’s no provision for the morning cup of coffee as there is at Campanile: the bathroom has shoe cleaner but no soap or bubble-bath. Television in the room is the usual French mix of European channels including BBC World which, surprisingly, has adverts. Breakfast at the Mas isn’t as comprehensive as Campanile and the coffee was “English” – yes, that bad! Lunch is offered as an a la carte at varying prices plus a “panier de tapas” at €35 each for minimum two people. Dinner is €60 for choice of three entrees, main plat (not specified) plus cheese and dessert. We were denied the chance to sample dinner as the wearing of shorts in the dining room is verboten! And this at the height of the mid-summer heat! So what does our comparison with Campanile tell us? A double room with breakfast at Campanile will be €70-75. Taking into account the “superiority” of the Mas de la Fouques Luxe room a fair price would be €125. We paid €342 including tax.

Excellent food as the Chef, Jean-Marc has previously worked in 3-star Michelins restaurants as well as spent 15 years in Asia, working in 5-star Hotels. On the menu, we can find fresh seafood and freshly grilled meat on skewers. Service is friendly and attentive, which is run by his wife, a Chinese from Malaysia. The restaurant is open everyday except Wednesday and Saturday Lunch.

Tired, hungry and desperate to get out of the car, two adults and two small children sat down and ate two bowls of fresh moules, heaps of golden frites, a grilled daurade, washed down with large glasses of chilled Picpoul, sparkling mineral water, and a couple of coffees. The sun went down over the boats bobbing on the water... tasty, blissful, and only 48 euros all in. Nice loos too.

The best place to eat seafood in Carnon, IMHO, and far better quality/value for money than all the moules/frites tourist traps around the port. Fantastic choice of super-fresh fish and seafood - we lunched on fried razor clams, scallops sauteed with basil, salad, 2 ice creams, 2 glasses of wine and 2 coffees, for 25 euros - a bargain. Large salads are 11-12 E, the shell fish platter is 25 E, or lobster in parsley butter is 30 E. We looked out at the boats bobbing in the port and thought ourselves very lucky to have found such a great, informal dining spot.

Having read the beach bar review (Click here) we wanted to try this out for ourselves. The overall impression was good. A smart, modern place with a real buzz. We went for lunch but I imagine it would be great fun for supper. The food was tasty but beware, the portions are more summer tapas type affair, so you might want to order a few dishes - we had spicy wrapped prawns and crab salad. Both were fine but the burger our neighbour ordered looked great - I knew I should have ordered that! It is not cheap either - our lunch with puds and coffee came to €90. The real plus is the location. You are eating right on the beach. To the front of the open restaurant is the private beach lined with comfy beds and parasols and an army of waiters rushing to keep the sun lizards supplied with cool drinks. A great place to chill and people watch - I would suggest you book in advance. Please note: this is one of those beach restaurants that open for the summer season only. Plenty of parking nearby.

Another little gem tucked away in a sweet square that is shared by a number of restaurants. Sitting outside in the shade, we enjoyed an delightful lunch. The food is fairly traditional, tasty and simple and great value too. But it is the location and staff that set this place apart. Cheerful staff look after you and given the square is mins walk from the centre of the city, it is a great spot - not too busy but still a good buzz. If you don't like to look of this place then there are a number of others to choose from and a nice looking wine bar too.

On the right night in the summer this small restaurant, bordering on the Canal has a perfect setting. The food we found much more adventurous than usual, my husband chose Fish Cakes with an Asian flavour which were perfect. The food was good and the service pleasant and welcoming. Recommended wine Chateau Paraza.Necessary to telephone to confirm opening hours and also to reserve table outside.

José and Corrine run a lively little establishment which, although not a pretty building (not their fault, and only for this reason the depressed score for ambience) has a wonderfully friendly atmosphere to both newcomers and regulars alike. The menu varies only occasionally, but is beautifully cooked and presented and served up in generous quantities. Anyone travelling between the towns of Carcassonne and Mazamet should make the 100 metre detour off the main road to sample the delights of this most pleasant establishment.

Mauroul, Olargues, Hérault |

Reviewer: Patrick Cameron , 10/09/2007
L’Adonis Rouge Named after a wild flower and not after a hunk who has spent too much time in the sun, the Adonis Rouge is to be found in the small hamlet of Mauroul in the hills just west of Olargues reached by a turning off the D 14 leading to Fraisse-sur-Agout. Park in the square and walk 100 metres through the narrow streets where you will find the restaurant overlooking the hamlet with fine views of the surrounding landscape. There is a terrace for summer dining and two dining rooms. There is no menu which is a formula that does not appeal particularly to me, but how wrong can you be? You have a choice of fish or meat for the main course and a three course dinner costs €30 ,with an additional € 6 for the excellent selection of local cheeses. The restaurant advertises itself as a “Restaurant Gourmand” and this is no idle boast. This is food cooked and presented with flair and imagination prepared from local produce according to the season. The chef,Hervé Leroy, is a perfectionist and every dish is presented with great attention to detail. For our first course we had four exquisite little starters each served in a small glass. The main course was stuffed chicken breast or a beautifully cooked daurade each accompanied by three or four vegetables The cheeseboard provided a carefully chosen selection of cows, sheep and goats cheeses in very good condition, and for desert there were again four different little dishes. The wine list offered a limited but well chosen selection of local wines starting at €14. So if you are looking for something a bit different, beautifully presented, prepared by a chef who really knows his métier, and a cut above the usual restaurant fare, head for the Adonis Rouge.Booking is advisable. This is one of those beach restaurants that open for the summer season - open from May 20th through to September 15th. Open for lunch and dinner and every Thursday night there is a 'repas concert'. This restaurant is well signposted - head to Vendres-Plage Ouest where you will pick up signs for it. There is ample parking only 100m away and the restaurant is right on the beach. If you take the menu, you get a free sun bed and parasol included in the price. The food is very tasty with excellent fish and a nice selection of wines. But it is the relaxed setting that is the winner. The staff are delightful and happy to suggest the best dishes on the menu. I would suggest that you book however. A great place to spend the day - the beach is large with great sand for the children to play in, while you can sit in comfort and sip cool rosé. The beach is also monitored by lifeguards too.

Wonderful location and ambience to this restaurant, unfortunately the service and food did not live up to expectations. Staff were unwelcoming, service slow, dirty glasses on the table, food had too much salt for our tastes.

This little hidden restaurant on a locker stairs offers wonderful food. The restaurant is familiy owned: Maman is cooking, the daughter does the service and the father recommends the wines. Food is delicious. You will have a big choice of wonderful creations for a reasonable price. A must see!! and eat!!

They are open at weekends in the winter. Agree with previous reviewer on process. Menu on our visit was imaginative. The wine list is manageable and has a good selection from local appellations.Ambience is rated for a cold november evening Difficult to find by road as the entrance is on the Roubia road 50 metres from the junction with the Beziers to Carcassonne road and then along the side of the canal to the lock.

This place is a real find, although actually finding it the first time is not easy. It used to be just outside Aigues-Mortes, but has now moved to near Le Grau du Roi. So call beforehand to make sure they're still there! A very bohemian atmosphere and terrific food. The razor shells for a starter are awesome. The whole place is taken down in the winter (you'll see why). open from early April to late October.

The Michelin starred restaurant at Le Hotel de la Cite lives up to it’s billing. It is the perfect place for a special occasion and the cooking, service, ambiance and whole experience is exceptionally good. The décor might be medieval but the food is definitely 21st century. You will pay five star prices but it is worth every euro. For a birthday, anniversary or to just impress – go here and don’t flinch when the bill comes.

I wondered about this place when it first opened because it didn’t look open and it’s location isn’t the best, but having had lunch and dinner there several times, I have been completely won over. The multilingual staff are wonderful and the cooking is extremely good. The €18 two course lunch or dinner, including a glass of wine, is magnificent value for money. The modern air-conditioned interior is a delight when compared to the many floodlit no atmosphere restaurants usually encountered in France.
