Perched at the foothills of the ‘Montaignes Noir’, just north of the St Chinian vineyards and on the river Orb sits Roquebrun. In summer the village is referred to as "Nice of Hérault" thanks to its very soft climate and the exotic flora of the Mediterranean gardens above the village. The village itself hasn’t much to offer - 2 decent restaurants and virtually no shops. But it’s the way it creeps up the hill side, crowned by an old watch tower, with its arched bridge reflecting in the river that makes Roquebrun so special. It’s really quite spectacular to look at. Above the houses is a ‘Mediterranean garden’ which is well worth a visit. The river here is slow and shallow - and there’s a pretty beach and a weir which creates a swimming pool where small children can swim without getting swept away. You can even rent canoes (I’d recommend the stretch from Ceps down to Roquebrun). Come at lunchtime in the summer, and have a mushroom omelette at the ‘Petite Nice’ restaurant which overlooks the river. Then have a dip in the river and soak up the rays on the beach.

Surrounding the village are the vines and orchards liad out on the terraced slopes. The local wines are AOC and excellent - visit the local Cave for a tasting.
