The beaches of the Mediterranean are only a short drive away, while to the north the mountains offer a number of cooler lakes, ideal for a refreshing dip in the summer. Cathar history is present almost everywhere and the ancient fortress of Carcassonne is only an hour’s drive away and well worth a visit, especially on jousting days! Minerve off to right on the way to Carcassonne is a must for those interested in the history of the Cathars. Enthusiastic visitors can enjoy a great variety of activities including hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, water sports, canoeing and river rafting, horse riding, tennis and golf. Béziers, the nearest city, is 25 minutes drive away and has perhaps the best flower market in the whole of the south on Fridays in the beautiful tree-lined main boulevard. Pézenas has a large open-air market every Saturday which is well worth a visit. The town boasts that it was once the home of Moliere and there are many craft shops, restaurants and beautiful buildings. During July and August on a Wednesday and Friday the craft shops are open until midnight and you will often find street theatre groups to entertain you ! Montpellier, the elegant and cosmopolitan centre of the Hérault, is 40 minutes drive. Several good golf courses are within easy reach, Golf Saint Thomas at Beziers, approx 20 minutes drive – see www.golfsaintthomas.com/english/. The beautiful tree-lined Canal du Midi which links the Atlantic with the Mediterranean has miles of flat walks along the shady tow paths. Cap d’Agde (30 minutes) has beaches and water sports, boat trips, beautiful harbour, golf, casino, fashionable shopping, nightclubs, waterfront restaurants, several children’s theme parks and a fabulous water park (Aqualand). About an hour to the south there are the Pyrenees and it is possible to take a day trip (about 3 hours each way) to Andorra. Monasteries and castles abound in the area and there are plenty of vineyards where you can taste some of the best wines in France.

The house is located in the centre of the tiny village of Cazouls d'Herault in the vineyards where the bread is still delivered to your door if you leave a bag out on your doorhandle overnight!

The village is very peaceful and perfect for a complete get away from it all holiday but there is a small restaurant/bar just a few steps away from the house if you don't want to drive. There is also a pizza van which comes to the village square a few times a week.

For a larger selection of shops, restaurants and bars then the town of Pezenas is just a few minutes drive away.

The house is stone built on 2 floors and has been beautifully renovated by the son of the previous owner who has kept all original floors and exposed beams. The house has been tastefully decorated and has many superb pieces of traditional French wood furniture.

On the ground floor is the open plan lounge and kitchen with comfortable seating, a bar/buffet, a woodburning fire and LCD flat screen TV. The kitchen is very smart and modern and fully fitted with new, high quality items.

French doors lead into the courtyard which has a stone table, sunloungers and a sun awning to provide shade while dining.

There is a small pool (called a bassin), which is 3m x 2m x 1.5m and has stone seats in it, much like a jacuzzi but without the bubbles. The pool is chlorinated and kept clean by the owners on changeover days. It can also be heated off-season and has a pool alarm for the security of children. It’s the perfect place to sit on those hot days, cooling off with a glass of wine in your hand!

There is a pool house with shower room, washing machine and a large chimney with grill for those evening BBQs. This room can also be used as a games room for the children or as an evening dining area as it also has a large wood table with a bench and 4 chairs.

Stairs lead up to a top terrace which can be used for sunbathing or just somewhere to hang out the washing. The whole courtyard, bassin and terrace are completely private and not overlooked at all.

Back inside the house, stairs lead to the first floor where there are the 3 bedrooms, each named after a Marcel Pagnol book.
Bedroom one is Chambre Manon and has a double bed and a single bed with bedside tables.

Bedroom 2 is Chambre Angèle and has a small double (only really suitable for one person), a large wardrobe, a set of drawers and a bedside table.

Bedroom 3 is Chambre Honorine and has a double bed, a cot with all linen supplied, a wardrobe, an armchair, a bedside table and a small balcony.

There is one large bathroom on the first floor which is in between bedrooms 2 & 3 and has a bath with shower over, a basin, WC and a dressing table area.

In summer, the house is cool due to the very thick walls. In winter, the house is heated by the woodburner and electric radiators in the bedrooms and is fully double glazed throughout.

Private, enclosed courtyard and terrace of 75m² with heated cool-off pool.

Pool room with bathroom and summer kitchen for BBQs / games room / shower room.

Plenty of free parking 30m away from the house

The village has regular communal BBQs by the river on Saturday evenings in high summer and everyone is welcome.

On the last Sunday in July there is a super village festival.

The village is very well located - 25 minutes to the beach and 20 minutes to a large and beautiful swimming lake red hills(Lac de Salagou). Cap d’Agde is 30 minutes, Beziers is 25 minutes and Montpellier around 40 minutes.
