The Neighborhood: Being 25 minutes by car north of Nîmes, the house is ideally situated to visit the famous towns and sites of Provence, Languedoc-Roussillon and the Bouches du Rhône. Avignon, Les Baux and Arles are about 45 minutes away. The beautiful, medieval town of Uzès, with its famous Saturday market and music and dance festivals, is a 20-minute drive. In the many cafes around the medieval market square, one can hear a wide variety of languages. Yet the area is quintessentially French; tourism is present but not obtrusive, perhaps because there are no casinos or other magnets to attract the uncultured or ostentatiously rich. A couple kilometres from Uzès, lies the 2000-year old Aqueduct "Le Pont du Gard", where you can visit, picnic, kayak and/or swim. There are many wonderful swimming spots in the area in rivers, clubs etc. all within a few minutes drive. The Camargue, along the Mediterranean Sea, famous for its white horses, bulls, pink flamingos, and beautiful beaches, is less than an hour away. The house is 20 minutes away from Alès (a medium sized simple town with a general market on Mondays and fruit and vegetable market on Fridays) , and about 45 minutes away from St. Jean du Gard, which is within the majestic Cevennes mountain-range.
