Hi

I know this guide is done out of goodwill, but can the reviews please be a little more accurate. For instance, we were out for a day and decided to check out a restaurant only to find it had closed a number of months back, another restaurant had the remains of food from several previous days in the window - hardly a good recommendation - and another was situated 'down town' , where I would be reluctant to leave a bike let alone a car in case of returning and finding no wheels on it!

Having travelled France for some 30 years or more, as a general rule, I would advise that you visit the village on the 'local' market day where food is sold and then head for the nearest cafe/restaurant opposite the halles, where normally you will find a reasonably well prepared meal at a good price - and where the local market traders eat - what more of a recommendation could you ask for!

Finding out about restaurant closures, or just a change in chef/ownership is a challenge. Professional guide books and their web sites (Michelin, Gault Millau, Bottin etc.) will lag by a year plus.

Using one's nose (and eyes) as it were works well in larger towns and on market days but can be risky in the more remote areas - especially as the meal times can be quite short. We've tried this and gone hungry several times as a result.

Can you share the name of the three establishments you elude to?

Graham
