Mèze has its own sailing and kite surfing schools which are renowned throughout France. Lessons can be conducted in both English and French. There are also opportunities for hiring sailing boats, wind surfs, speed boats, kite surfs and sea kayaks.

Within a short drive of Mèze, there are opportunities for a range of activities such as horse riding and wild river swimming and kayaking.

The medieval town of Pézenas and the vibrant city of Montpellier are both a short drive away as are a range of attractions such as the Roman Pont du Gard aqueduct.

We can provide bikes for days out. Mèze has an extensive car free cycle path that links the many towns and villages on the étang de Thau, including Bouzigues and the spa town of Balaruc-les-Bains.

Mèze Maison has four luxuriously appointed ensuite bedrooms. All have power showers, kingsize (or superking beds), internet radios, Bosch Tassimo coffee machines, TVs with DVD, black out curtains or blinds and air conditioning. Some also have island baths.

Louis has three floor to ceiling French windows, each opening onto a small balcony. It has a superking bed (180cm), an egg-shaped freestanding bath, power shower and separate WC. It has views over the castle garden and the étang de Thau lagoon. Louis is 20m2 and is on the second floor.

Jojo has a French window with small balcony overlooking the Château de Girard and its gardens. It has kingside double bed (160cm) and, through a set of double doors, a large dressing room and ensuite shower room. JoJo is 14m2 and is on the second floor.

Clara is a spacious attic room with a view of the Château de Girard and its gardens. It has a light and airy feel with a kingsize bed (160cm), separate shower and WC, and a small walk-in wardrobe. It has some restricted head owing to exposed beams. It is 20m2 and is on the third floor.

Mimi is a twin bedroom (also configurable into a superking double). Nestled in the attic, it has a high ceilinged sleeping area as well as an ensuite shower and WC. With its own freestanding bath, Mimi is 14m2 and is on the third floor.

We serve breakfast daily (included in the room rate) from 830am to 1030am. Mèze Maison has been meticulously and sympathetically refurbished into a luxurious chambres d'hôtes with exposed beams, original panelled doors, parquet flooring and antique chandeliers and mirrors. The house is bright and airy with a feel of relaxed luxury.

All rooms have been individually designed to give guests a relaxed home from home experience. Some have freestanding baths and all have air conditioning, power showers, blackout curtains or blinds and kingsize beds with high thread count Egyptian cotton bedding. Beach towels are provided.

All rooms also have internet radios, Bosch Tassimo coffee machines and TVs with DVD players. Guests have access to an extensive DVD library with a selection of both English and French titles. Complementary soft drinks are included in the room rate as is a full continental breakfast and evening aperitifs.

Breakfast is served in the large salon with views of the 17th century Château de Girard and its gardens. Breakfast consists of fresh fruit, a selection of patisseries from our favourite local boulangerie as well as locally sourced cheeses, cold meats and yoghurts.

Guests have access to the spacious salon with its five floor to ceiling French windows throughout the day and evening. Aperitifs are served from 630pm with a chance to talk with other guests and find out more about the local area from hosts who have been coming to the area for many years.

Your host speaks English, French and German and will be happy to help you plan your stay from booking lunch in a leafy square in nearby Montpellier to securing a boat for a day out on l'étang de Thau.

Mèze lies on the étang de Thau, a salt water lagoon that provides France with around 10% of all its oysters. It has plentiful restaurants, many serving fresh fish and the famous Bouzigues oysters. The village is surrounded by vineyards, most of which are open for wine tasting. The beach and harbour are both less than 5 minutes walk from Mèze Maison (beach towels are provided). The local cinema is a 10 minute walk from the property and shows both French and English language films. In July and August, Mèze hosts a range of art and music festivals.
