Uzès is quite a cosmopolitan town, with people from all over the world either living here or owning property in Uzès. As a result, the town features lots of lovely restaurants, up-market shops and plenty of cultural opportunities, with some wonderful concerts performed in the historic sights throughout the town.
Within the town itself, property can be hard to come by, due to the high popularity of the area. You can find apartments in older buildings, most of which will need at least a lick of paint. Entire town houses are also available, sometimes with small terraces or courtyards. Being of historical importance, Uzès hosts some truly gorgeous properties (which only pushes prices still higher, of course), with tons of original features and oodles of charm. There are increasingly large numbers of modern new-build houses being built just on the edges of the town, and these can offer a good investment opportunity for anyone who doesn't have the time or inclination to do any renovating. Often, new-build properties for sale in Uzès will be offered on a leaseback scheme - where the developer guarantees to rent your apartment or villa out for most of the year for a guaranteed income. Service charges can be high, but it's a great, hands-off way to own property in Uzès, and also a tax-efficient way to buy.
Of course, in paying a higher price for your house in Uzès, you can also charge a premium were you to rent it our as a holiday home, or run a B&B. The town is hugely popular with tourists, who flood in during the summer months for Uzès' market and historical sights. Uzès is not likely to lose its value either - it really is one of the most beautiful towns in France, and its one-off appeal will ensure that property prices here stay high.
There are many areas around Uzès that offer good property hunting opportunities. The area to the north is less built-up and more beautiful, as you move into the foothills of the Cevennes mountains. Montgaren-et-Saint-Médiers is quite pretty. As for property for sale to the south of Uzès, you start to get into the suburbs of Nîmes (although Collias, on the river, is lovely), and the terrain here is flatter and less interesting (see our page on Languedoc's terrain).
Buying property in Uzès will also give you easy access to great communications - the TGV station at Avignon is not far, as are the airports at Avignon, Nimes and Montpellier. The A9 motorway is also only minutes away. And, of course, Languedoc's beaches are only about 30minutes by car, and Provence is also not far.
Should you not find houses or apartments for sale in Uzès that meet your needs, we'd recommend you contact an estate agent with properties in this area.
