Béziers has, until recently, had a bit of a poor reputation as a city. It was quite poor, with a large number of immigrants. However, the centre of Béziers is very pretty, with cobbled streets and more and more nice shops and restaurants popping up like mushrooms. Apartments in Béziers are a good bet, whether you buy in an old building (and do some renovation) or buy one of the many new-build apartments for sale in Béziers, often available to purchase with a leaseback scheme, which guarantees you rental income.
The area around Béziers is an excellent one for looking for property for sale. Drive away from the coast, towards the Black Mountains, and you get into the vineyards of the St Chinian and Faugeres areas. If you're looking for houses for sale in Béziers, France, then we think this area is your best bet. The countryside is beautiful, and the beach is only 30 minutes away. There are some really charming villages here too - look for property for sale in Cessenon-sur-Orb, Murvielle-les-Béziers, Capestang, Magalas and St Chinean. Also popular is the region just beyond Pezenas (itself hugely popular with property buyers), with lovely villages dotted among the vines such as Roujan, Margon, Nefiès and Gabian.
All are nice villages - with enough life to keep you from getting too bored. Stay clear of the towns between Béziers and the foothills - this is commuter-belt country, and the towns are less charming and the countryside flat and boring. These include Villeneuve, Maurassan, Maureillan and Cazouls.
Property for sale in Béziers, near the coast is more expensive. The terrain here is flatter and far more built-up. You'll find lots of holiday apartments along the coast itself - which can be pretty ugly in places. Stay clear of Valras - it's just a cheap holiday town. Instead, head for Vendres, Serignan, Portiragnes and Agde.
Overall, we can highly recommend Béziers as a place to buy property at the moment. The increasingly active airport (Vias-Agde) will bring in a lot more holiday-makers and property-hunters; new road-building to connect the city more easily with the A9 and A75 motorways; the huge 'Rive-Gauche' property developement being built by Béziers station; and the eventual speeding up of the train link to Barcelona - all promise to keep the property fire burning. Be careful where you buy in or around Béziers, however, as some areas are likely to remain poor, ugly and rough.
