Sete is a popular destination with Brits and other north Europeans who flock to its annual, three day nautical jousting competition held in August on the main canal. As well as being a tourist destination it's also an active fishing port, and British house hunters have been snapping up holiday homes here, attracted by the long, sandy beaches, accessibility and great location. The town is buttressed by the Mont St. Clair; hike up to its summit and you get breathtaking views across the Thau lagoon, neighbouring vineyards and towns, and of course the Med. Sete has the potential to be a good property investment thanks to its proximity to Montpellier, where property prices have spiraled and finding affordable accommodation is a challenge. It has plenty of good restaurants and bars.
