The origin of the name comes from 'casas' meaning house and 'arnes' meaning silkworm.
A true working wine village - nestling in a beautiful valley - with rocky outcrops on one side. The soil around the village is almost Mars like with its deep red colours, the colour of the langue d'Oc.
Places of interest include the trail of Saint James of Compostela, the hamlet and Abbey of Fontcaude, the village church with frescoes of the Old Testament, the village fountains offering a welcome drink to thirsty hikers and cyclists and of course the wine cellars.
The village itself does not have any shops (except a Post Office) but the bread van delivers twice a day and other tradesmen come to village on a weekly basis. The village it situated close to St Chinean - with its weekly market and good shops and Cessenon or Cazouls with various supermarkets.
There are many beautiful walks around the village in the vineyards and 'garrigue' offering splendid views of the surrounding countryside.
