Nimes is a beautiful, historic centre maze of plazas, restaurants, chic boutiques and cafes. It also boasts some of the worlds best preserved Roman remains, including the Nimes Arena and the Maison Carrée. The city has a permanent art exibition gallery at the Carre d'Art, which was designed by Sir Norman Foster.

The Jardin de la Fontaine and the Tour de Magna are a beautiful settings where one find more remenants of the roman colonialisation, such as the Roman baths and the ruined Temple to Diana.

During the tourist season there is a artisanale market once a month on Thursday, known as Jeudi de Nîmes. During this time one finds bands playing live music with a spanish beat into the night on different squares, whilst passers by dance or sit quietly eating or drinking enjoying the ambiance.

If you visit be sure to try Brandade de Nîmes, which is a local speciality.
