On the edge of St Etienne Estréchoux, a village in the foothills of the Cevennes, this house built about 1970 at 300m is set in grounds of 5000m2 backed by the communal forest overlooking the village. The grounds contain many fruit and other trees and a small above-ground wooden swimming pool edged by a secluded, raised terrace. There are two other terraces at the front and back of the house, a well and a barbeque. Nearest town, Bédarieux, 15 minutes away.
Situated in a small valley the climate is protected. In consequence it is a haven for birds and wild flowers with an occasional visit from deer and wild boar. A trout stream runs through the village, a tributary of the River Orb.
Within a mile there are 2 primary schools and in the next valley and the local town, Bédarieux, there are secondary schools, supermarkets and hospitals. In the village there is a town hall, café and a butcher and in the next village, Graissessac (1mile), there is another town hall, butcher, pharmacy, doctor's surgery, café, tobacconist that sells papers and bread, grocer's shop and a hairdresser. There is a small weekly market in Graissesac with fresh vegetables etc. and the bread van calls daily at the bottom of the road, down which the local bus runs.
