Villa La Cascade features a fully equipped kitchen with everything the keen cook could wish for. Complete with electric oven and hob, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washer dryer and all other essential items, the kitchen is kitted out with everything from a simple salad or barbecue to a full scale dinner party. This is our home from home in France and one of the best things about a Languedoc is the cuisine. The food of the area is based on fresh, simple ingredients and a number of local specialties. Olive oil, tomatoes, fresh seafood and the herbs of the garrigue (scrub) are combined with beautifully fresh fruit and vegetables to provide a simple alternative to many of the cream laden or more meat based cuisine of other French regions. Visitors to Villa La Cascade will discover Bourride (fish with aïoli), Morue Catalane (cod with tomatoes and pepper) Anchoïade (anchovies with garlic and olive oil) Crème Catalane (cream with lemon, vanilla and fennel seed) on the menus at local Languedoc restaurants. Pélardon, Roquefort and Bleu des Causses are amongst the delicious cheeses from Languedoc and are widely available at food markets and village shops alike. If you have a desire to create some Languedoc food of your own whilst trying out your culinary skills, you pay a visit to the Les Halles food market in Narbonne. It’s about half an hour from the villa and here you can gather the fresh ingredients for a lunch by the pool or dinner on the terrace from one of the best food markets in France. The market is somewhat of an institution in Narbonne life and is open from 6am to 1pm daily and is famous for the range, quality and price of food. From glistening fish laid out perfectly on beds of ice to juicy fresh fruit, a huge range of charcuterie and endless stalls of wine, spices and cheese - it’s more or less impossible to return to the villa empty handed!

The village of Durban Corbières and its magnificent castle are situated deep in the Corbières on the old Route National 611, about an hour equidistant from both Carcassonne and Perpignan. Surrounded by beautiful vineyards and ancient hills, it’s a perfect place to while away a few weeks at any time of the year. The village is a five minute walk and is home to just under seven hundred inhabitants and boasts a supermarket, boulangerie, tabac, cafe, bank, petrol station and a mixture of other shops running alongside the River Berre. There’s also a doctor and pharmacie and a lovely flower shop. The village is a 5 minute walk downhill from the villa and caters for most of the needs of anyone renting this lovely Languedoc holiday home.

Rising out of the Languedoc plain and guarding the old border between France and Aragon, the Cathar castles are not to be missed. Like ancient sentinels they gaze across a landscape barely changed since medieval times. Within a short drive of Villa La Cascade you can visit Queribus, Termes, Peyrepertuse and a host of other stunning monuments, each with a unique and often tragic history.

Nearby, the thriving market towns of Narbonne and Beziers provide a wide range of shops and services, whilst the city of Perpignan offers a vibrant mix of influences – more Catalan than French in atmosphere. Swimming and wind-surfing are available in the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean at Cap Leucate, just 30 minutes away. The snowy peaks of the Pyrenees rise dramatically the south and a range of winter sports are available in ski resorts only a 2 hour drive away. Golf, tennis, horse-riding and sailing are within easy reach and the hills are criss-crossed by lovely walks for every level, all with magnificent views to the foothills of the Pyrenees.

The African Reserve at Sigean is one of the most highly rated wildlife parks in Europe and is a just 25 minutes drive from Villa La Cascade. The reserve provides an outstanding range of wildlife from lions, elephant, rhino and cheetahs and many more animals - all to be seen in a convincingly natural environment.

For lovers of food and wine, there's a wide choice. From local restaurants providing great food at reasonable prices to Michelin starred restaurants only a few minutes from the village. The rising star of Languedoc wine is the highlight for many visitors; numerous Chateaux providing ample opportunities for sampling and purchase at value for money prices that barely do justice to the exceptional quality.
