Le Hameau des Oliviers - in the heart of the south of France

MapWe can't think of a more exciting part of Languedoc to be situated within. The traditional village of Sernhac is within easy driving distance of Nîmes, a vibrant city with a unique mix of modern architecture (Norman Foster's Musée Carée is here) and France's most impressive Roman ruins (Les Arènes and the Maison Carée roman temple). The town of Uzès, probably the most beautiful in Languedoc, is also close by, with its Le Duchée castle and impressive tower. Le Pont du Gard, the world's best-preserved Roman aqueduct, is only a few minutes away. It's a great place to take guests, or to swim and canoe in the river Gardon beneath it.

SernhacMontpellier is also not far, and, across the border in Provence, Avignon provides yet another exciting city full of great restaurants and shops, as well as the impressive Palais des Papes and the Pont d'Avignon. To the south lies the beautiful Camargue region, with its flamingoes, wild horses, bulls and cowboys ('Guardians').

In terms of travel - you couldn't be better connected. Languedoc's major motorway, the A9, runs very close (but not in sight!) to Le Hameau, and Nimes, Avignon, Montpellier and Marseille airports are all close by too. There is even a TGV station at Avignon, should you want to pop up to Paris for the weekend!

The delights of Provence are also close by. Aix-en-Provence is not too far, with the beautiful Luberon region just north of that. Drive south-east, and you get to the Provence coast, with pretty seaside towns such as Cassis and St Tropez.
