Mosaic design

Photo1 Interior & Exterior commissions:
The mosaic design starts with tiles that are hand-painted in onglaze enamel - allowing control over colour and surface complexity. This offers the client or interior designer the opportunity to match colourways and effects.
They are fired at 800 centigrade, then broken, cut or nipped. Composition takes place in the studio, where the work is fixed under paper. Any size of composition can then be sliced up and brought to the site for fixing.
The mosaic is not affected by rain or frost. It is one of the few surface decorations that will retain its colour and beauty for hundreds of years.
Tables & Surfaces:
Mosaic tables for indoor use are set on MDF or ply. For durability outdoors, we set mosaic in a concrete base or on resin-treated marine ply.Careful guageing of adhesive gives a flat, even surface ensuring stability for wine glasses or vases.
Many of our tables have seen long service in bars, cafes, restaurants and hotels.
Around the pool, patio or bathroom these mosaics are colourful, durable - and safe.

Mosaic courses

Photo2 The art of mosaics is accessible to all and making mosaics is fun. Each stage of the process is different so there's no time to get bored. At each step we demonstrate, explain and advise, helping you to realize your own ideas. The mosaics around the house and in the studio provide lots of inspiration, and we have plenty of books and photos.
We start with painting the tiles: enamel onglazes fired at 800 c. allow a full spectrum of colours not available in commercial ranges - the brushwork, spongeing and sgraffiti give both depth and complexity, impossible with factory tiles or tesserae.
All our students have come to us as beginners and everyone has produced a beautiful mosaic: a table top or mirror surround; or a wall panel for the bathroom, kitchen or garden.
There are courses in the spring and autumn: five morning sessions (9-12) on Thursdays, starting October 18.
In the summer there are six-day residential courses: you could join in every day - and even stay for lunch and a swim!
The studio is in Moux, just off the RN 113, near Lézignan-Corbières.
