Ales is not the nicest of cities, to be honest, but the areas around it can be very beautiful. The town of Uzes, not too far away, is perhaps the most beautiful in Languedoc, with its stunning Duché Palace. If you're looking for holiday home rentals and villas near Ales, then you might want to try looking north and west of the city - where the landscape is more mountainous. This is the foothills of the Cevennes mountains, and a couple of hours drive in winter takes you to some not bad ski slopes. The Mount Aigoual observatory is not far as well - and from it on a clear day you can see both the Alps and the Pyrenees mountains, as well as the Mediterranean.
Holiday home rentals and villas near Ales are not too expensive, as this area is some distance from the coast. The Uzes area will be more expensive, however, but properties to the north and west of the city should offer excellent value for money.
Don't forget, however, that if you're looking to rent a holiday home rental or villa near Ales that you'll not be that close to the sea - beaches are about 45 minutes drive from here, the nearest being the beaches north of Montpellier at La Grande Motte - and of course the excellent Espiguette beach.
