Lodeve is a popular spot for British holiday-makers looking for holiday home rentals and villas. The town sits in a valley through which runs the A75 motorway to Paris. It's said to be the 'Gateway to the Mediterranean' - as its at this point that the Mediterranean climate an fauna starts.
Lodeve itself is known for being a little rundown - with its large population of Algerian immigrants and history of mayoral corruption. However, a new Mayor and lots of arts funding is transforming the town - and it is becoming noticeably more lively and interesting.
Holiday home rentals and villas in or near Lodeve offer good value for money - as this is a favourite area for British buying second homes, so there are plenty of rentals available. The beaches of Montpellier and Beziers are about an hour away, however. That said, the stunningly beautiful Lake Salagou, with its Martian-red dunes, is only 10 minutes away, and is an excellent place to swim and sail in summer. The beautiful Cirque de Navacelles is not far, as is St Guilhem le Desert, so sightseeing options are plenty. The A75 motorway also makes getting to and from Lodeve very quick and easy.
